Subser vs Housecall Pro

Housecall Pro is the deepest consumer-facing tool in this category: financing at the door, review requests, a price book, job costing on the cheapest plan. It's also priced by seat once you pass 8 people, with a long menu of add-ons whose prices aren't on the pricing page.

Prices read from housecallpro.com/pricing and subser.com/pricing on September 25, 2026. One-month intro discounts left out.

The short version

  • Housecall Pro is $79, $189, or $329 a month on monthly billing, with 1, 5, or 8 users included. Past 8 users it's $35/mo each. Subser is $19, $49, or $99 with up to 75 users on every plan.
  • Housecall Pro's Basic plan includes more than Subser's Starter: job costing, a price book, consumer financing, and review management are all on the $79 tier. If you want those four things in one app, it's the stronger product.
  • Housecall Pro's route optimization and open API are Max-only ($329). Subser has route optimization on Pro ($49) and API access on Business ($99).
  • Add-ons are where the bill drifts. Pipeline, Campaigns, Websites, Voice, Payroll, and CSR AI are each sold separately and their prices aren't on the pricing page. Subser has no add-ons.
  • Subser doesn't sync with QuickBooks Online yet (it's on the roadmap). Housecall Pro does, from Essentials up.

Pricing, side by side

Housecall Pro has three plans with a fixed number of seats each: Basic (1), Essentials (5), Max (8). The Max card lists $35/mo per additional user. Subser's three plans each include up to 75 team members.

Add-ons: Housecall Pro sells Pipeline, Campaigns, Websites, Voice, Payroll, and CSR AI, business coaching, and vehicle GPS/dashcams separately. None of those prices appear on the pricing page, so they aren't in the table; ask for them in writing before you sign. Subser has no add-ons.

Payment processing: Housecall Pro lists card rates "as low as 2.59%" and 1% for bank payments. Subser passes Stripe's standard published rate through with no markup (2.9% + 30¢ for online card payments when we checked; see stripe.com/pricing for the current rate).

What each one costs a real crew

Cheapest plan on each side that includes what the scenario needs, monthly billing. The 8-person case is where the two products land closest on features; it's also where the price gap is widest.

Where Housecall Pro is the better choice

  • You sell big-ticket work and want financing at the door. Consumer financing is on every Housecall Pro plan. Subser doesn't offer it.
  • You want reviews, price book, and job costing on the cheapest plan. All three are on Basic ($79). Subser doesn't offer review tools or job costing.
  • You want QuickBooks Online sync. Essentials ($189) and up. Subser's is on the roadmap, not live.
  • Your crew is on Android, or works in Spanish. Housecall Pro's app is on both platforms and in both languages. Subser has an iOS app plus a web app; Android is on the roadmap.
  • You need offline viewing on job sites without signal. Housecall Pro includes it on every plan. Subser's offline mode is on the roadmap, not live.
  • You want live phone support on the cheapest plan. Housecall Pro lists phone and chat on every plan. Subser's Starter is chat and email; priority support starts on Pro.

Where Subser is the better choice

  • Flat price, whole crew. $49/mo on Subser Pro includes up to 75 people. On Housecall Pro, a ninth person is $35/mo, and the plan with API and route optimization is $329.
  • Route optimization at $49, not $329. Housecall Pro's Essentials has "Routes" (grouping jobs by area); one-click route optimization is Max. Subser's is on Pro.
  • No add-on menu. What's on Subser's pricing page is everything Subser sells. Housecall Pro's page lists 6 add-ons, plus coaching and vehicle GPS, sold separately without prices.
  • A public profile backed by state records. Subser's directory shows a contractor's Washington L&I license, bond, and insurance status and a Confidence grade that money can't move. Housecall Pro's review tools help you collect stars; Subser's directory deliberately has none.
  • Your data comes in easily. Import your customer list by CSV and start running jobs the same day. Export is on Subser's roadmap and isn't live yet; we'd rather say that here than have you find out later.

A note on payouts: a recurring theme in public reviews of Housecall Pro on Trustpilot and the BBB is billing after cancellation and payment holds during processor reviews. Subser's payments also run on a processor (Stripe) that can hold funds for review, so this isn't a claim of immunity; it's a reason to read the payout terms of whichever tool you choose.

Who should pick which

  • Stay on Housecall Pro if: you sell financed replacements, you run job costing and reviews out of the same app, or you need QuickBooks sync and offline mode.
  • Move to Subser if: you're a crew of 2–20 that's paying for seats, you want routing without the Max tier, or you want a state-verified public profile.
  • Compare closely if: you're solo. Housecall Pro Basic ($79) has more in it than Subser Starter ($19); Subser Pro ($49) is the fairer match, and it includes your future hires.

Switching FAQ

Can I bring my customers and job history over?

Yes. Housecall Pro exports customers, jobs, and estimates as spreadsheets from its reports. Import customers into Subser first. Keep the old account open until you've checked everything. Note that Subser imports your customer list today, not jobs, and doesn't export yet; export is on the roadmap.

Will my saved customer cards move?

No. Card tokens don't transfer between payment processors. You'll re-collect cards for customers on autopay.

Does Subser have a price book?

Yes. Estimates are built from your price book, and you can text one to the customer from the driveway.

Does Subser sync with QuickBooks?

Not yet; it's on the roadmap. If you sync daily, that's a reason to stay until it ships.

What about consumer financing?

Subser doesn't offer it. If financing closes your bigger jobs, Housecall Pro keeps that edge.

Is there a contract?

No, on either side. Both are month-to-month with no long-term commitment. Housecall Pro's annual prices require paying the year up front.

One number. No add-ons.

Subser Pro is $49/mo for up to 75 team members, with unlimited jobs, routing, and a live arrival link your customers can watch. No seats, no add-ons, no card to start.
